We had a great third week of kindergarten. It is amazing to see students already so independent with our routines and procedures. This week brought conversations about what scientists do (inquire, observe, experiment) and why writers write (to remember, to inform, to entertain). It is so powerful to watch as students start to see themselves as powerful writers with important things to share! We will really emphasize writing in the coming week, with labeling being a major focus of writing instruction. At home, you can give students the opportunity to label items throughout the house (they will draw detailed pictures of the item and may begin to sound out the first letters). The most important part of this process isn't the label itself but the understanding that letters work together to make words and those words can be powerful tools to inform an audience. This week also brings Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 29th at 6:00 here at Mitchell School! This event gives us the opportunity to share with you the goals in each subject area, more information about IB, and sign up for conferences! You will be getting a packet of important information at this event and be hearing from our administrative team. I look forward to seeing you all Tuesday! |
