What a wonderful second week we are having in kindergarten! I am amazed by the thoughtful ways students are engaging with their new classroom and friends. The beginning of kindergarten is a transition and I appreciate all of your communication to ensure that students are finding a home here at Mitchell School!
In class we have been focusing on rhyming words this week, noticing that the endings of words being the same often results in a rhyme (bear, pear). We have also been practicing one to one correspondence between a number and the quantity that number represents. We have been doing this with bead flags that will be coming home on the 10th day of school.
Centers are a major component of our literacy block, although not all of the centers are linked to literacy instruction. Students are responsible for moving their pencil marker to the center that they wish to join, being flexible if that center already has the maximum number of people. During this time I will be working with small groups of students at my table. Students were very excited to find out that at this very table they will learn to read! Below is an image of the "command center" for this time of day.
Below is the newsletter that came home Monday in the homework folders. If you have any questions about the homework expectations please contact me!
I have also attached an extra copy of the homework calendar for September in case you need it.
